Do memories of an accident or injury disturb you?

We cut and bruise ourselves many times and there are many incidents that occur and they slip into our memories once our limbs are healed.  However, there are some that do not fade into inconsequence so easily. For these we may attach blame, incompetence, self-reprisal or any other self-denigrating thoughts or negative feelings which hang heavily on our minds.  They hinder our relationships and our productivity let alone our own sense of wellbeing.

EFT is able to disconnect the memory of the event with these feelings and thought patterns allowing the event to slip into the distant past where it belongs freeing you to emerge a wiser and whole person.

Do you feel awkward doing day to day activities?

After major trauma there is the healing and the rehabilitation and to all intents and purpose you have recovered and are back home, managing your personal care and picking up on your social life again. Although you are able to do things you still feel awkward – there isn’t the fluidity and ease, there is heaviness.  With EFT we can address these feelings and dissolve the discomfort that may come from seeing yourself doing things differently.

After the sessions you will have increased confidence to continue with your life and feel at ease with other people.

Are your scars pulling on your mind?

For every injury to our skins, whether from an accident or from surgery, a scar develops on the skin.  There is the first stage of sealing of the skin and to all intents and purposes it can be considered ‘healed’.  However there is another phase known as ‘remoulding’ where the bumpiness is flattened our and the redness fades and the skin pigment settles and the underlying structures move freely.  The remoulding phase happens naturally in small injuries. In larger injuries where we have infections, discomfort, other medical interventions taking priority or other reasons not to move or use that part of the body the scars become stuck and uncomfortable to see and feel.

There are some physical practical massage and cream routines that can be taught. There are desensitisation programmes that can be done too.  Also EFT can be used to address any feelings, thoughts or old hidden believes that may be complicating the scene.  When the emotional responses are cleared the physical aspects have the freedom to continue with the natural healing processes.

Are you uneasy about how you look?

Gary Craig, founder of EFT, talks about the ‘writing on the walls’ the stories or phrases that are used constantly within our childhood environment that form the foundation for our beliefs and feelings later in life.  If you have any that is derisory of a group of people and your recent injuries now put you in that category – how does your subconscious reconcile this? Eg  ‘Disabled people are dumb and just scrounge of society’ – so now that I am disabled I must also be dumb and a burden on society…. I could not go out to work – I would be rejected, I cannot go out socialising – I am dumb…. As you can see from the paralympic athletes not all disabled people are a burden and useless.

With EFT we can explore your history and see if there are any phrases that carry high emotional charge and are interfering with how you see yourself now.

Do you want more control over your pain?

Is pain your guide to determine when you start and stop activity? Does it determine what type of activity you do?  Does it fluctuate depending on your mood?  Pain is a messenger on many levels. The obvious one is physical harm when we pull our hand away from fire.  When there is physical injury and we need to let the limb rest while it heals and knits together.  However when the injuries are old, if there is no recall of an injury at all the pain is a messenger of a different kind.  These could be emotional burdens we hold against us because we feel we too should bear some of the consequence of that event.  Or it may be a preventative pain – what would you do if you didn’t have the pain? Do you feel that the activity that you feel duty bound to do if you weren’t in pain acceptable? Perhaps the pain allows you time off work at a time you feel your personal conscience is being overridden by the work you are being expected to do?

With EFT we can tap into your subconscious and release some of the emotional layers and so often there comes clarity on what the underlying issue is.  This may be addressed by EFT or it may be something you need to address separately.  When you decide to address the underlying issue the pain comes under your control.
